In London

We have arrived in London as of yesterday. It has all been tenuous and touch and go for the past day.

I awoke after midnight Sunday night with vomiting and then the most severe diarrhea I’ve had seen I was volunteering in Guatemala. Really gave me empathy for what my boys went through. I spent the better part of the night on the toilet despite medicating. And our flight to London was that day.

My amazing cousin made the trek to the only pharmacy that was open on Sunday (did you know most grocery stores and pharmacies close in Italy on Sundays??) and picked me up some Imodium and depends diapers so I could make the journey. Weak and dehydrated, but well medicated, and with some support, I made it onto the flight and through it without any symptoms. It took all the willpower I had. Luckily I had booked an airport hotel for 2 nights, anticipating this scenario, as a trek into the city would’ve been very hard.

Once we checked into the hotel, I started having symptoms again. Mind over matter, right, but with room service got my boys fed (and they ate, as they hadn’t for a while) and I had a few bites of soup and bread. I passed out to go to sleep at 630pm, telling my kids they were responsible for getting themselves to bed. Woke up many many times overnight with symptoms but around 1am, 24 hours from when they started, I started to feel a little better, as I did this morning.

We all had a nice breakfast buffet this morning and I’m resting in bed trying to encourage my energetic kids to go explore the hotel so I can rest. I’m still feeling tired and dehydrated and have a huge headache but think I’m better and should be good for the long flight tomorrow.
