Arrived in Ubud

Today was a very long day.

Which started at 4am, an interruption of the first night of good and non-sick sleep I’ve had in a week by a boy’s bad dream.

I did an amazing run by the beach. Took some gorgeous photos but unable to load them as WordPress tells me I’ve used my 3GB of media even though I deleted videos.

Then a drive to our villa in Ubud with Wayan, who we met through some other physician moms.

Once we arrived at our villa, we started unpacking and noticed many issues—2ACs in rooms not working, moldy dishwashing rack, dirty fridge with half eaten bowl of fruit in it, and the list goes on. I unpacked and dealt with these, which as usual in Bali takes longer than they say and involves explanations and words that both parties don’t understand. I’m definitely feeling like so far Bali has just been rougher travel and a rude awakening every turn we make (except the smooth night at Uluwatu).

If Eat, Pray, love was about Italy, India and Bali, then so far my story goes Thailand, Indonesia, England—Peace, Challenge, and TBD….

I guess our trip in Thailand was going so well that we were due some challenges. It is not beyond me for sure and takes growth; it’s just painful and undesired lol.

To add to that, I woke up looking in the mirror and noting that my eczema seems worse on my arms. About 30 minutes later, I had a fine maculopapular rash on my torso, arms, chest and back, and swollen lymph nodes. But the chills, retroorbital pain and headache and abdominal pain are gone. I really do wonder if I had a mild version of Dengue fever (which was my kick out of Thailand rather than my welcome into Bali), or whether it was just some weird virus I got but the kids didn’t.

In either case, I’m so ready to just settle in and have a “normal” day today. It took 4 hours of people coming , looking at the AC, mansplaining to me it was fine, then to discover it was a Freon issue, mansplaining again, oh dirty filter, etc. If there’s something this Perimenopausal woman needs to sleep, it is a tool with functioning AC! And yes, I was very acutely aware of my damn privilege as 5 men helped fix my AC while they likely went back to a house they shared with lots of people with no AC. But it is what it is. I paid for a service and expected it.

Oh vent done. I’m off to sleep soon. If the universe votes in my favor.
