Grand Canyon water park in Chiang Mai

I asked my kids earlier this week if there was anything else they really wanted to do before we left Chiang Mai. I had already vetoed all the borderline or cruel animal places such as the tiger “sanctuary,” the zoo, the night safari, and monkey “school.” They asked for the Grand Canyon, which is basically a very tacky yet very fun huge water park 10 minutes from our Airbnb. At the admission price of 800 baht, you get endless water fun, a zip line, cliff jumping, and the adrenaline packed fun that 2 energetic boys thrive on. The boys almost couldn’t contain their excitement when they got here.

Playing spectator

I got a ticket for myself too. I went out for a bit on a partially inflated SUP that was missing a fin and then decided to play spectator, which I’ve rarely been able to do on this hands on vacation.

We intersected with another mama doc and her 11 year old son, and the boys did an obstacle course for a while, to win themselves a free Italian soda. My boys also zip lined for the first time. They’ve been begging to do it, but it’s just on the list of things that I, despite being adventurous, just never want to do. At this ripe old age, I feel I am old enough to not be shy about those decisions. So it was ideal that there was staff here that didn’t require parents.

We arrived here just as the park opened at 10am and it was perfect. It started getting busier at 1pm and then the volume of adults really picked up after 3pm. Overall, it was a day really well spent, and I kinda wish we had discovered this place earlier.

Tomorrow is our last day in Chiang Mai, and I feel this was a very successful first chapter of our trip. I’m both excited and nervous to see how things change once we hit Bali.

  1. Looks like a great day!  Looking forward to hearing about the next leg. It can feel a little daunting to move on when you have invested so much into getting to know a place, but I think you will really like Bali. I have never been, but Brad has, and he still talks about how wonderful it is there.
