Exploring Chiang Raí temples and then home sweet home to Chiang Mai

We awoke in Chiang Raí today, in our quaint hotel, had breakfast and some pool time and got picked up at the leisurely time of 930am.

We headed to the Blue Temple first, which was inspired by the famous White Temple we were to see next. Every time I say to myself, really, one more temple?, I realize just how gorgeous and unique and different each one of them is, it’s own masterpiece and art creation.

Next, we drove a short way to the famous White Temple. We haven’t seen many tourists in Thailand but this place was MOBBED. So many people. Our guide did a great job of making it seem like we were the only ones in the photos.

This place is more gorgeous than the photos

Once done with the White temple, we drove back towards Chisng Rai and stopped at a not famous yet still gorgeous temple in the hills an hour in—Wat Saeng Kaeo Phothiyan, with s gorgeous garden around it. Here, Tom and kids had fun trying to toss coins into the belly of the fat Buddha/monk statue.

We then stopped for lunch and at a hot springs on our way back to our chiang mai Airbnb, home away from home.

We had lunch here; place founded by a physician who wanted to bring awareness to STD prevention during the HIV epidemic

At last we arrived home and said bye to our lovely guide Tom, gave him a nice tip and wished him well. He was so sweet—while we were driving he said that if we ever needed anything while in Thailand, to consider him a friend, and send him a message on WhatsApp. This is the kindness of the Thai people, embodied. You can feel it all around you, and it is so peaceful.

On another note, both the boys and I have rashes and S had hives this morning. I’m really hoping these are heat rashes and not scabies. It was super easy to walk into a Thai pharmacy and get Claritin and triamcinolone cream today, so if needed, we’ll get the required treatment, but I’m crossing my fingers it all gets better now that we are in a consistently cool place with good AC.
