We are less than 2 weeks from our big adventure. I’ve been packing for months but now is time to get more organized. This is our biggest suitcase (medium size). It will carry all the toiletries, meds, shoes, etc. I bought these amazing waterproof zipper bags on Amazon to help separate things into categories, and then put an index card in each bag with a list of all that is in it. I put blue painter’s tape on top of the bag writing the items that still need to go in the bags (to be bought or last minute). This prevents me from packing and repacking and forgetting what I already packed. Mama Middle Aged brain, you know?
We will have 4 flights and one overnight layover in Bangkok in order to get to Chiangmai. I bought this great Tobiq bag last year that has 4 compartments, each with sub compartments in it. It can be worn as a bagpack too as you see in the photo. I love it. There’s a compartment for each of the 3 of us and an extra for things like snacks, meds, etc. I put 2 changes of clothes, basic toiletries in each compartment for each person. I love organizational systems like this, otherwise I would be frantically looking through all my luggage trying to find something. Traveling with kids is 80% organization—learned that with my first trip with S when he was 5 weeks old, as I boarded a plane alone with him, and many thereafter.
Our itinerary for arriving is all set and our lovely chiang Mai Airbnb host offered a driver to meet us at the airport. I say yes to everything that makes my life easier when it comes to travel with kids. We have no agenda once we arrive. Just to settle in, get some food and enjoy the pool. We have travel books and will determine any in country travel ad hoc, as the point of the trip is to LIVE and experience life in a different country, which can be best done by enjoying one place for longer. We look forward to sharing more with our friends and family, and feel free to comment or tell us what kinds of posts would be most fun.
